Creating Traffic To Your Web Site

Expanding Universe Theory (Perry Marshall):

  1. Start with Google Adwords (PPC - Pay Per Click).
  2. Use SEO (Search Engine Optimization - Jim Maddox) - and submit your site to SEs and directories.
  3. Overture and other PPC.
  4. JVs (Join Ventures):
    • with related associations.
    • with related mail-list owners (not spam).
    • with related high-traffic web site owners (for example, put your offer on their exit pop-up or ask to include a link to your web site).
  5. Affiliates.
  6. Publicity - online and off-line Press Releases. White papers.
  7. Direct Mail.
  8. Print Advertising - especially in trade (niche) magazines
  9. Print ads in generic magazines, newspapers, on TV. Other traditional methods of promotion.

Effective Methods:

  1. Build opt-in mailing list - offer E-Mail Newsletter (ezine) or mini-course (free or paid).
  2. Viral marketing (examples - hotmail - using signature, www.passthison.com - shows cute fun stuff).
  3. Offer free service - information, calculators, reviews, tests, pictures, fun. Content may be contributed by the users (example - user ratings, predictions, opinions and reviews, etc.).
  4. Create community - free or paid membership, forum.
  5. Promote your web site and News Groups
  6. Publicize a contest or drawing available on your site.

Other methods:

  1. Banner Exchange Program
  2. Include your web site on all your materials (stationary, ads, catalogs, invoices, etc.)

 

Generate traffic by offerring free content on the web site,

as well as articles and white-papers for other people's web sites adn ezines:

 

The #1 reason people go online is not to buy things but to find free information. So give it to them. Offer it for free to many web sites and ezines - in exchange ask to include your resource information at the bottom (link to your web site, other articels, an offer to receive a free minicourse - try to make it look as a resource - not as an ad). It is a good idea to make a special opt-in list for people who want to receive new articles from you.

Also create an archive of your old articles on your web site - and let people read them right there - or download one big zip. Add the link into your email signature.

 

Put a copyright notice - but without a date.

Check your articles with SpamAssassin and when submit it - include a note that says "this article was checked by SpamAssassin and is Spam-safe".

When you submit your articles to the article lists, include URLs for your article and your photo (and may be your autoresponder address). Here are examples:
